Anita Maxwell is a native of Dallas, Texas by way of Rome, Mississippi. She is a graduate of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, where she was a stand-out volleyball, basketball, track athlete and honor student. Her basketball potential earned her a full scholarship to New Mexico State University.  In addition to being an All-America athlete, Anita kept focus and graduated in four years with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business. She earned a Master of Arts in Urban Affairs with a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Texas at Arlington and also is a class of 2000 graduate of the McCombs School of Business’ Community MBA Program.

While at NMSU, Anita became the first player in NCAA history, including men and women, to score 2500 points, 1000 rebounds and record 300 steals in a career. Following graduation, Anita played professionally overseas in Israel, Turkey and competed against other European country basketball clubs. She was drafted by and played for the Cleveland Rockers of the WNBA during the inaugural season. She is the first basketball player in NMSU history (male or female) to have her number retired (#40). She retired from playing professionally in 1999 when other interests began calling her to life beyond basketball.  She was drafted into NMSU’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.

Anita has over 20 years of senior level professional career experience in various areas of sales and marketing with for-profit and nonprofit organizations. She has an expert ability to explain what is often complicated information and connect with people on a level where they can understand and use that information for their benefit. This lead her to be a sought after marketing and community relations professional, assisting nonprofits and corporations in achieving and maintaining positive relationships with their clients and the communities in which they do business. Her company, SuccessFULL Living, represents the umbrella for diverse services offered to their clients with a spirit of excellence and with a high quality output that helps them accomplish their goals.

In 2014, Anita was selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of the EY/International Women’s Forum’s Women Athletes Business Network (WABN) global leadership development program. She is a member of the NBA Retired Players Association. She also continues to give back to the sport of basketball as a member of the advisory board of the Women’s Professional Basketball Alumnae (WPBA). Anita volunteers for various service projects through community organizations and through her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She takes time to mentor other professionals still young in their careers as well as enjoys public speaking to various audiences on her vast experiences. Her favorite things to do are traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
